FOR BUYERS & SELLERS

Marketplace standards

Expectations for honest listings, lawful products and respectful trading.

Updated 19 September 2026
The essentials

Represent your business and products honestly, communicate clearly and respect the rights of the people you trade with.

Use accurate business information

Post products only for a business you are authorised to represent. Keep its name, location and public contact details accurate. Do not impersonate another business or suggest that MarketLane has verified or endorsed your account.

A seller profile is not a substitute for any business registration, licence, tax obligation or other requirement that applies to your activity.

Sell goods you have the right to sell

  • Do not list stolen, counterfeit, illegal, recalled or unsafe products.
  • Do not use product photos, descriptions, trademarks or other material in a way that infringes someone else’s rights.
  • For regulated goods, establish that your business and the proposed sale comply with the relevant requirements. Being able to create a listing is not regulatory approval.
  • Describe defects and restrictions clearly. Do not make unsupported health, safety, performance or certification claims.

Keep the sale clear and fair

  • Agree the exact item, quantity, total price, delivery arrangements and after-sales terms before taking payment.
  • Do not advertise an unavailable product as ready for immediate delivery. Keep stock and dispatch information current.
  • Do not use false discounts, fabricated reviews, misleading payment links or fake verification badges.
  • Handle payment, delivery and return questions promptly and respectfully. Do not harass buyers or sellers or publish their private information.

Consumer rights still apply

Seller policies and these guides do not exclude rights or obligations that cannot lawfully be excluded. In particular, a store’s voluntary returns terms do not automatically replace statutory protections for qualifying transactions.

MarketLane’s current service includes listings, enquiries and links to seller-hosted payment pages. It does not provide a managed fulfilment, refund or dispute-adjudication service.

Use the site responsibly

Keep your sign-in secure and use only your own authorised account. Do not attempt to access another seller’s records, upload malicious content, interfere with the service or collect personal information for unauthorised purposes.

If a purchase looks suspicious, stop and keep evidence. Contact your bank or payment provider for suspected payment fraud, and use the relevant consumer process for an unresolved purchase complaint.
